How to assign Mountpoint (drive letter)
starcrwzer:
When I do Autodetect, the Rockbox utility tells me that it can't identify the Mountpoint and I need to do it manually. The drop down box shows my C, F, and G drives which are all hard disks. My Sansa player doesn't show up in the drop down list.
I open Windows Explorer (Windows XP) and the Sansa player shows up in the My Computer folder, but it doesn't have an assigned drive letter. I tried to assign a drive letter via the Disk Management routine but the Sansa didn't show up there so that didn't work.
How do I get a drive letter assigned to the Sansa player so it will show up when I run the utility. I'm getting tired installing Rockbox to the C: drive :)
bluebrother:
You need to change the Sansas configuration to connect in MSC mode. Currently it's in MTP mode, and in that mode it won't get a drive letter.
starcrwzer:
Thanks, the MSC mode worked. I went back and reviewed the Utility manual and noticed it didn't mention that the player needed to be in MSC mode to get a drive letter assigned. You might want to add that to the manual when you do an update.
torne:
Which manual were you looking in? The Sansa manuals should all start with a section labelled "USB Connection" which tells you how to enable MSC mode.
starcrwzer:
I'm working with 2 manuals.
I decided to first install Rockbox on an old Sansa c200v2 to see if I liked Rockbox. The c200v2 manual does not mention MSC mode anywhere in Section 2. I finally got Rockbox installed on the c200v2 with the forum's help and it looks good.
I also have a Sansa Fuze+ which will be the second target for Rockbox. In Section 2.1 of the Fuze+ manual it does say that the player needs to be in MSC mode but does not associate MSC mode with getting a drive letter assigned. So even if I had read that in the Fuze+ manual while trying to program the c200v2, I would probably have not put 2 & 2 together to put the c200v2 in MSC mode to get a drive letter assigned.
