It is worth noting that during the installation, there is no need to hold the |<< key. What is happening during installation is just a firmware update, with a full version of the original firmware specially crafted to allow Rockbox to be booted as the primary firmware. During installation, the device is already running the OF (obviously), and as soon as the device is ejected from the host it will update itself when the original firmware file is detected on the main storage, with no intervention required on the behalf of the user.
Holding the |<< key during boot is only required to boot the OF *after* Rockbox installation, when the OF is no longer the primary firmware. The manual for your device describes installation, and dual-boot, in great detail.
