Sansa Clip+ 2 USB problems
mikexyz91:
Hello. I have a Sansa Clip+ and use Rockbox for a long time and didn't have any problems. But now I have 2:
- When I plug the player into the computer I must wait minimum 30 sec (sometimes over 1 minute) for it to display in my computer. This was already tested with other computer and I reinstalled Rockbox several times already and still have the problem.
- When transfering files from computer to the player the transfer time is horrendously long. I use TeraCopy which shows the speed which is normal (around 4-5 MB/s) but for some reason almost between every file there is a pause. The same thing happens with default windows copying program.
I can't really post these problems on the SanDisk forums since I use Rockbox from day 1.
Edit: Really no help? Come on guys.

It is a known problem, mentioned here. The bug reports have been already filed.
The only solution is to wait for the fix. Which might take some time because USB support is in fact optional even on stable ports, as stated here.
Fortunately, you can always use the original firmware to connect the player. Turn off the device, then hold the “left” button while connecting; alternatively, boot into the original firmware before connecting (the same button trick while turning the player on).
EDIT: Oh, your problem seems a little different, you didn't mention any crashes, my bad. If it also occurs when using the original firmware, try formatting the device.

Well, that is really embarassing. I started the player using original firmware by pressing the left button as you told me to and the firmware installed first (cause I only had Rockbox and deleted the original) and while the player is turned ON with the original firmware, the player appears in My Computer instantaneously while plugging the player with the player turned OFF or turned ON with using Rockbox I must wait some time as explained in the first post. So I guess I will turn the player ON while transfering data to the player although the REFRESHING YOUR MEDIA is kinda annoying as it takes ages considering I have more than 7 GB of music on it :).
The second problem (pause between every file while transfering them) however is still there but I think it's a problem with several other cheap players as my previous player which was some VAKOSS player had the same problem even though it was used with other USB cable and tried on several PCs and laptops. If someone has a solution to this it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You, electric_indigo for your help.

What do you mean by this?
I'm quite confused, it isn't actually possible (on this device, at least) to my knowledge...so, I'm wondering what you actually did, compared to what you think you did. The way installation on these devices works doesn't allow for the removal of the OF (the bootloader is installed via a modified OF, no OF == no booting, anything)...only a few targets I am aware of actually do allow for Rockbox to be the sole operating system on the device.
The only thing I can think of at this point, is that you removed the directories created by the OF on the device storage (##MUSIC#, ##PLAYLISTS# et al), which is quite different to removing the original firmware itself and a largely futile effort (these directories will simply be recreated by the OF the next time it is booted). Under any normal circumstance the user has no access to the firmware partition, and even if you did, removing the contents of it falls into the category of "Bad Thing".
There's a chance I have misunderstood you post, please clarify if you are able to do so.

Maybe I've just misunderstood Rockbox then. I started the OF by pressing left for the first time, there was a screen saying FIRMWARE UPDATE, STAND BY (or something similar) and when I saw it I thought that there was no OF (or at least there was something simulating it for Rockbox to work correctly) and it installed when I started it for the first time. I just didn't think that the OF was still there and thought that it was just a empty skin that Rockbox went to wear if I write it metaphorically.
