Sansa Fuze+ won't charge & freeze when unplug USB

I am using a rockbox build from a week or so ago for the Fuze+. I can plug in USB and it will enter the USB transfer mode via the bootloader, but I it does not charge, and when I unplug the player, it will reboot and immediately freeze on the rockbox splash screen. It takes a hard shutdown (holding the power button a while), and then it will boot properly. Even if I am booted into the OF, plugging in USB will cause the player to enter the "bootloader 1.0" usb transfer mode, which will then cause the freeze you unplug.

As far as charging it, I have found that I can only charge it by using an A/c adapter charger, or, turning the player on first (booting rockbox), then plugging in USB and holding the button to prevent it going into transfer mode.

Anybody know what is going on? Are these known issues? I used the rockbox utility to install it on the player and I used the OF posted on the sansa forums.

Does anyone else have the fuze+?

I noticed today that with the latest rockbox build for the player, it now can handle USB being plugged in as long as the player is already turned on and booted into rockbox.

Plugging in USB when the player is OFF still has the same problems as before, the worst of which is how it will hang at the rockbox loading screen, requiring a hard reset when you unplug USB. Maybe the problem is with the bootloader?

I seem to be having the same problem as the two posts above.  I am not able to charge the device using the computer.  I don't have an ac adapter nearby to charge with.

There is also an issue when you charge the Fuze+ (when already off) from an ac adapter too, it locks up when the main binary starts up.

However if you roll back to Rockbox build bece6cb it starts up ok when you plug in the ac adapter, I'm guessing that version predates the frequency scaling change.

The bootloader has had some improvements, but an updated bootloader build hasn't  been applied to the Rockbox utility yet, I guess the developer hasn't decided it is safe to deploy yet.

I have compiled and tested the latest version of the bootloader and I have to say it is a lot better than the original Bootloader V10 apart from the ac adapter startup issue.

Could you point me in the right direction to get started?

I would like to install the bootloader you suggested but I'm not sure how.  I assume that I can't copy it directly to the drive from the zip file.  I tried using the rockbox utility but it only has the latest dev build as a selectable option.

A few words on the subject: I've noticed this bug, too. However, assuming you downloaded the bootloader from the Wiki, you can plug the device in and not have it freeze if you simply leave it plugged in for a short while. I'm not quite sure how long you need to leave it plugged in, but thirty seconds or so should do. Or, you could press the volume down button while plugging in to start the OF, unless you are already running Rockbox when you connect.

Also, I believe you need the Wiki bootloader to charge from USB directly from the bootloader. Otherwise, you can't charge unless either you let Rockbox boot itself completely or or use the OF. Note: I don't think the bootloader from the Rockbox Utility is quite the same as the one on the Wiki, so if you can't charge from the bootloader, that's probably why. Also, I use the V10 version, and can't say about any other version, including the "better" one cela mentioned, though.

As far as I know the bootloader in the wiki is the same as the one used in the rockbox utility, dated June 2012.

I guess we need to be patient as pamaury is very busy with several ports at the same time and is by far the most active developer, but I would agree that the bootloader is the most needed update for the Fuze+ at the moment.

If you cannot provide those, I would advise taking it down, if you can - you'll still need to move it to the unsupported builds section.

Sorry yes. I've linked to the source, it wasn't a custom build, just complied from the latest development source.

But I've removed the binary, it's best to everyone to wait for the update to be added the Rockbox utility and the Wiki or
compile it for themselves.

If you haven't changed anything at all, you can just give the git hash from when you checked it out and that is good enough since we will handle the hosting.

Thanks for the info. I have no idea what to do with that source since I am not a programmer, so I wish there was a link to the binary. I guess I have to wait for a new bootloader to get pushed to the rockbox utility? I am fine with waiting, just glad to know it is going to be fixed in the future.

The bug where it would kick you out of rockbox and back to the bootloader was fixed. Now just the bootloader is causing problems.

This player really has the potential to be great.
