Ipod classic 5th generation (Ipod Video) camouflaging with Rockbox
Bagex:
Dear all, first I want to say thanks to everyone of you for the great job with Rockbox and the given support with this forum.
I've a problem with my Ipod classic 5th gen powered by Rockbox and my audio system Yamaha ISX-800 with integrated Ipod dock due to the fact that this system is compatible with all Ipod models except Ipod 5th gen (really...and I don't understand why). You have to know that when I put my Ipod 5th gen in the dock station it starts to recharge in background and if I tap play the song starts on the device but no sound or output comes from the speakers.
So, this is my question: is it possible to camouflage my Ipod 5th gen as 4th or 6th or what else using some tricks or some right configuration in Rockbox? Do you have any other advice to fix this problem?
Thank you for the help guys!

You could change the USB product ID from that for the 5th to that for the 4th (in the source code, forcing you to compile your own (which is quite easy)) but working with the 4th OR the 6th, but not the 5th smells fishy. You sure they aren't talking about Nano compatibility?
torne:
Also, if the device is trying to control the ipod using the actual ipod accessory protocols, this may or may not work with Rockbox whatever model it thinks it is; we don't implement every version/feature of the accessory protocols, so setting it to a different model may not make it work any better.

Thank you for the answer...
Yes, I'm totally sure: the compatibility issue is only about Ipod Classic 5th gen :(
Could you kindly help me to find an "how to" guide to change the USB product ID?
See you and thanks again.
AlexP:
There is no such guide, you will need to edit the USB ID in the source code (/firmware/export/config/ipodvideo.h) and then compile Rockbox from the edited source. There are guides to compiling on the wiki.
