Issue while trying to make a better keyboard for Sans Clip Zip
« on: January 30, 2013, 05:20:55 AM »
EDIT: problem solved... I still wonder how to share that kind of work.

Hi all,
I'm totally new to Rockbox, and I must say it's awesome.

The native virtual keyboard layout on my Sans Clip Zip was awful though, hence I tried to make a .kbd file a little more usable.

I ended up with something close to what I wanted, only there is still something bothering me. When I scroll right to change screen, I have an empty one. So say I want to go to my special symbols from the small caps letters "page", I have to go all the way through an empty screen.

Anyway, any hint on how to deal with those kbd files properly?

There is only one line in the file, here it is (there's a space before the first "a"):
Code: [Select]
 abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz.'_,?!:;"@/&$ ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ.'_0123456789#%*-+=\ ()[]{}<>~^

Also, where can I post that kind stuff, so other people can use it if they want?

Have a nice day!

Nevermind, problem solved itself... I'm not sure how.

I added numbers for easier access, and tada.

My new version if you're interested (again, a space is required before the first "a"):
Code: [Select]
 abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz.'_,?!:;"@/&$ ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ.'_0123456789#%*-+=\ ()[]{}<>~^            0123456789

Bye!

07890. "#%*-+={}

Is this in the head of git?  I've been irritated with the keyboard problems on the clips for a while...

I didn't know about this feature until i went looking for a better keyboard for the zip. The keyboard is customizable using a .kbd file. Who knew? just copy the code into a text file and name it with the .kbd extension. Load it in rockbox. As simple as that.

http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/LoadableKeyboardLayouts

I've attached the kbd file i use. Just remove the .txt extension in the filename. You may need to adjust it for use with your user font.

The manual knew ;)

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.
