Sansa e280 / Rockbox 3.12 and 32gb SDHC and 64gb SDXC not recognised.. help!

(1/1)

andrewh1973:
Hi everyone

I've just installed Rockbox 3.12 onto my v1 e280, bought a new 32gb SDHC card, formated as FAT32.  The card works ok in a laptop and in a USB card reader etc, but cannot be seen by the e280 directly or even accessed as a drive via the e280, a drive letter appears for the sd slot but clicking on it just results in a "insert a removeable disk" message.  I thought this combo was supposed to work?  Advice please!

Thanks, Andrew/

Turns out that the card was defective and sent it back for a refund... I've now purchased a genuine SanDisk 64gb SDXC hoping that would solve my problems but...

I've formatted it as fat32 and while it CAN be seen as a removeable drive (and written to) while the e280 is connected via USB under the Rockbox firmware, Rockbox itself refuses to recognise the existance of the card.  I've taken to almost pulling my hair out over this, anyone got any suggestions please?

Have you set the partition's type to one of the FAT partition types instead of the one exFAT uses? Formatting tools may not do this for you.

andrewh1973:
Yup it was formatted as fat32, I did change that already.   I've tried to reformat it again several time and suddenly it's started to work, no idea why...

torne:
The partition type is an entirely different thing to what you formatted it as: PC operating systems pretty much all ignore the actual partition type and just detect what filesystem is actually on the device, but Rockbox currently requires that the partition type in the partition table actually be set to the correct value. Just formatting the drive with your OS's normal utilities will not change the partition type, but some other tools will do it.
