iRiver "Check HDD Connection"

On 2 river H320s I have a message "Check HDD Connection" when I try using the RockBox setup: a Compact Flash adapter and a standard Compact Flash. I've tried numerous adapters (5) and Compact Flash cards from 3 different manufacturers, 18GB, 32GB, and 64GB. Using the USB data connection to a computer, the Flash is recognized by the computer.

This issue was posted sometime back but not solution was forthcoming. So I'm hoping someone can give me some direction. I feel grateful just thinking about getting this solved.
