iPod classic 6g: restoring the original firmware
(1/1)

Hello everyone, some time ago I installed rockbox on my iPod classic 4g, knowing that the port was (and still is) unsupported. Almost everything works fine, but I can't recharge the battery, which makes the whole thing pretty useless.
Now I'm trying to restore the original apple firmware. I couldn't use the mbr dumps since there isn't one for my model, so I thought I'll have had to restore it with iTunes.
Following these instructions didn't work, they only took me to the emcore/rockbox boot menu.
http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/IpodFAQ#How_do_I_restore_my_broken_iPod_63 points to (old) broken links. I think that the intended one may be this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363
However, the instructions from apple didn't work either.
--- Quote ---Toggle the Hold switch on and off (set it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least six seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.
--- End quote ---
The iPod did restart, I pressed select and play/pause, but nothing happened.
I think that my last option may be to follow http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/IpodManualRestore (I have the correct firmware), using a custom made mbr. Can someone help me in doing this? How should I partition the iPod?

The 4G has been supported for many years, and can in fact charge the battery.

Yes, it's the classic 6g 2nd revision (160gb, black), sorry

You can't actually dual boot on the 6G. Those instructions are all for different ipods then you have. If you want to go back to the Apple firmware, you have to follow the uninstall instructions from the emcore project.
