Sansa Clip Zip 4GB ver 449dff4M-120414 w/class 10 16GB SD
Am trying to build playlists but can't figure it out. Read manual and Wiki and FAQ.
When I first tried, it put me in the keyboard screen and below was "//Playlists.m3u8"
I looked in the memory with Windows and it now shows a new playlists folder. I have
some playlists in my phone but I assume the directory structure is probably different
and that would probably keep them from working. I am pretty sure they are not .m3u8
I would like to just build playlists on the Sansa without listening while I do this.
So I go in the file browser, highlight the first song, "long select" the Context menu,
select current playlist, where the only choice is Insert, and select that. This starts
playing that file and goes to the WPS. So I use the power button to stop playback
and that also takes me back to the file browser, where I repeat these steps. After
a few times inserting new songs, I go and look at the current playlist, and it only
has the very last song I have inserted. So I am doing this wrong.
In the manual, it says the Playlist Catalogue can build a playlist that is not playing,
by using the Context (Long Select) which immediately goes to the keyboard with
the //Playlists.m3u8 - it does not explain what this is - am I required to name the
playlist at this point? That is not explained anywhere, and there is no playlist yet.
In the FAQ is says :
" If you want to play only a single song, or start a new playlist with a
single song rather than the entire folder, do this:
Stop playback.
Enter the file menu.
Select the song you want to add.
Enter the context menu.
Select "Insert."
That seems to be what I am doing. In the manual it says:
" The Playlist catalogue makes it possible to modify and create playlists that are
not currently playing. To do this select Playlist catalogue in the Context Menu.
There you will have two choices, Add to playlist adds the selected track or directory
to an existing playlist and Add to a new playlist creates a new playlist containing
the selected track or directory."
I think this is not really complete, the Context Menu, being 'contextual', depends
on where you are when you access the Context Menu, so instructions should
explicitly say where you are accessing the Context Menu from, n'est ce pas?
I like the auto-playlisting from a folder, my phone didn't do that, so I ended up
building playlists from the entries in an album folder. This was needed because
a lot of my mp3 files have no ID3 tags. I made them from LPs -> Thorens TT
w/Ortophon pickup -> Nakamichi preamp -> Archos JBR tune by tune. Then I
brought them into a laptop and named them: artist/album/tune.mp3
But a lot of my playlists are collections of a song from this album, a song from
another album, etc. This is what I am trying to do and can't figure it out.
