Explain exactly what you did.
bluebrother:
If you use Rockbox Utility for installation (which you should, both because it's the recommended installation method as well as because this forum is for discussing Rockbox Utility related things) you select on the main page what parts of Rockbox you want to install. The first is "Bootloader". You need to install the bootloader once. When installing the bootloader Rockbox Utility tells you what you need to do. If there's anything unclear with those dialog boxes please ask more specifically.

1 Received new SanDisk Sansa Clip+ 4 GB - brand new, works great with onboard original stuff
2. Used Sansa Firmware Updater to update onboard firmware to version V01.02.18A –which was verified by going to Clip+ Settings menu
3. downloaded Rockbox 3.12 utility Download from http://www.rockbox.org/download/ to my Windows XP sp3 Toshiba laptop
4. downloaded clppa .bin file to my desktop
5. rockbox 3.12 utility to install stable release for clip+
5a. Bootloader and Rockbox items both checked
5b. clip+ attached via USB cable – shows as F drive on my computer
5c. click install on utility, then click ok on bootloader prereq (browsed to desktop clppa .bin file
5d. utility then went through process and listed
Downloading bootloader file
Download finished (cache used)
Patching firmware
Success Modified Firmware file created
Creating Installation log
Installation log created
Downloading file rockbox-sansaclipplus-3.12.zip

Extracting file
Creating installation log
Package installation finished successfully
100%
Clicked on Ok
Disconnected (unplugged Clip+ from laptop USB) – which by the way was showing Connected on Clip+ screen
Unit turned off on own
Unit turned on by me … screen shows song that was on Clip+ before
Clicking home on Clip+ shows no change to SanDisk screen

Can you check if the clppa .bin file is still on the root of your player?
