Sansa Fuze: Stereo .SID file playback in Rockbox 3.12?
« on: January 03, 2013, 05:57:01 AM »
Is it not possible to get stereo SID file playback through the TinySID codec? I believe merely copying the 19500 byte stereo sid.codec over the standard mono 18876 byte sid.codec does not accomplish this task. When I do that, no SID files play at all. I'm hoping I don't need to completely downgrade my Rockbox 3.12 to that customized version which has stereo .SID file playback (I think it is only based on Rockbox 3.8 IIRC). Is there a technical reason why the copy-replace operation doesn't work?

Codecs have to be compiled for the version of Rockbox that runs them. If versions are close to one another copying may work by chance but it'll break fairly soon.
