iPod Video battery life
« on: December 22, 2012, 04:00:01 PM »
I was wondering if anybody could tell me why my iPod's battery doesn't last for very long.  It won't stay on for longer than 2 hours playing music when fully charged.  I haven't tried playing video on it yet. It's a 30gb iPod video running the dev build.

Probably a dead battery.  Given its age, a 5G would probably have needed a replacement battery by now.

Thank you, I'll see if I can find a new battery, and if I can, if that was the problem.

If you save your current config file and post it somewhere I'll take a look at it to make sure you're not running any battery-killing settings.  I still use my 5th gen 60GB daily and get >16 hours of runtime on the original battery.  But it might be an outlier.

Swap the HDD for a CF card using the Tarkan adapter and replace with a new battery - you will find HUGE improvement to the battery life. This is from my own experience. I never could expected this much improvement before the swap.

I'll attach my config files.  I replaced the battery, and it lasts a little longer, but it still dies pretty quickly.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you.

Where did you get a 900 mah battery?  Did you change that setting just playing around or are you running an aftermarket battery which claims such a capacity.  That's 50% more than the stock 60/80GB battery and pushing the limits of credibility.

You're also running four bands of EQ.  That's going to consume battery.

You can turn off the accessory power supply and the lineout to save decent amounts of power.  You appear to have them on.

Why is LCD sleep after backlight off set to 5?  That's not a massive amount of wasted power, but are you really looking at the WPS with the screen on but the backlight off?

Why is idle poweroff set to 5?  It's probably better to let the iPod idle for much longer than reboot it multiple times a day IF this low setting is causing multiple shutoffs.
