RockDoom (more questions from me. )

(1/1)

Reece:
I have been reading up about Doom and the rockbox support of doom (rockdoom.) What I don't understand is why rockdoom does not support WAD. files with custom textures/graphics. Are there allot of WAD's out there that don't have custom textures and mods? I read up all I could on the rockdoom page. But I still need a little help. Please enlighten me.

(I am new. I will try to answer my questions myself before I post on the forums. Because I know that can get annoying when people don't read before they (I) ask questions.)

Reece:
NOTE: ok I think I am begining to understand a few things about WAD. files. There basicly two types. First is the base WAD. Witch is the game itself, like doom2, doom, and what have you. But then there are add-on's. Are those basically custom maps?
I am still a little confused as to how this whole thing works. I read all the articles I could but its still not "clicking."
Thank You for your patients with me.

From the wiki:
Addons

* WADs from GP32 wads - These WADs have modified, non-standard graphics that cause buffer overruns in doom. Rockdoom does/will not support these WADs exiting immediately.
* A good way to test WADs on the computer to see if they should work is to run PrBoom 2.2.6 with the software renderer. The OpenGL renderer will not work as a check. If the addon runs on PrBoom 2.2.6 with the software renderer a bug report should be filed.
* These WADs can be fixed using a WAD editor like Deutex to change all the graphics that are oversize or out of range to follow the Doom standards.

I believe the addons that don't work use resources that don't conform to standard Doom.  When Rockdoom tries to use such an addon it leads to overflows.
