Sansa e260R
« on: December 12, 2012, 04:18:50 PM »
Can I put RockBox on my Sansa e260R?  If so, which one do I use.  I only see V1 and V2?
Thanks

Its one of the steps you have to go through to install rockbox on the e200R.  See that link for more info.

I have followed the link and held down the select button and plugged in the usb the first time it came up as normal Sansa.  So I changed to Rhapsody Mode and did it again.  The file could not find any usb busses and nothing happened.  Now my Sansa wont do anything.  The ring is lit up bright blue but I cannot turn it off or anything.  What do I do now?

I am following the instruction to install rb on this device.  I go to my Device Manager, select Universal Serial Bus Controllers and then USB composite device and then Update Driver Software and select the driver files I downloaded from the rb site and I keep getting the result that mydrivers are already updated to the latest drivers.  I don't think that is the message I should see.  When I try to use the patcher it says that it can't find any USB busses.  What am I doing wrong?

Lets try this a different way.  You're following those instructions.  Step 1 and 2 are obvious, so you're probably past them.  Beginning with step 3, say what you did.  If you've passed step 3, describe what you did for step 4.  Continue until you get to the step you're on.

I finally took all this to my nephew, who knows more about these things, and he informed me that I was using Windows 7 64-bit, not 32-bit and that is why none of this is working.  We used his computer and got everything to work.  It seems he was correct.  Right?  Rockbox can't be worked with if you are using Windows 7 64-bit?

That's not true in general, but I wouldn't be surprised if the e200R installation procedure specifically has some issues with 64 bit windows, yes.

Theres actually a 64 bit driver included, so it looks like its intended to work on a 64  bit system.

64bit Windows refuses to load drivers that are not signed. I haven't checked this but I'd be surprised to see the libusb drivers being signed. So I'm not surprised it didn't work. You can disable signature checking on 64bit Windows but this has to be done during startup and (AFAIK) isn't permanent.

Furthermore, I don't think using e200rpatcher has been tested on Windows 7 64bit -- the e200r seems to be rather rare, especially these days. So e200rpatcher having additional issues on 64bit wouldn't surprise me, but since I have no way of checking this is only me guessing here.

Actually, I think there *are* signed packages of libusb out there somewhere, but I expect the copy we have isn't. I don't remember where I saw it, though..

Is there a solution to this other than using someone else's computer. Up to that point I followed the same procedures with the same results. Could not find usb busses. Drivers already updated. Can not get to Firmware unlocked.

Yeah see bluebrother's post.  Either disable signature checking or find a signed binary.  And I guess hope the installer works at all on 64 bit.
