[01.02.18A] Worth upgrading from SanDisk firmware?

I used SanDisk's SansaUpdaterInstall.exe last night to upgrade my Sansa Clip+ 2GB from the 01.02.16A firmware it shipped with to 01.02.18A.

I noticed on the SanDisk forum that 01.01.35 was available, but manual install failed (nothing happens after copying m300a.bin at the root and rebooting the unit; I even had to unlock it through "slide up & hold the Power switch for 10 seconds toreset the device and then release and slide up again to restart.")

Before trying RockBox, I'd like to check what killer features it would add.

One thing I miss is being able to know how much time is left on a tune, eg. "-34'30"" would tell me there's 34mn30s left to listen to. Will RockBox provide this?

PS : is there a way to get rid of the two verifications at the bottom ("Type the letters shown in the picture" + "What is 5 + 8") when posting?

Rockbox can definitely do that, but not all themes will show it.

Yes. It will go away after you've posted successfully (i.e. we didn't delete the posts due to being spam) twice, so you should only see it once more.

The 01.01.35 and 02.01.35 firmwares are for the regular clip, not the clip+

good thing it didn't flash with clip firmware would have bricked it?

.18 is latest and I think Rockbox utility doesn't support it, last time I looked. I've just stuck with .16

This absolutely could not happen. Nothing to worry about.
Rockbox utility won't let you patch an incorrect firmware file, and even if you "tricked" Rockbox Utility by manually specifying another device type, or if you patched the firmware by hand, the device wouldn't accept a firmware file for another device, so the update would not complete.

TL;DR: "Don't worry about it, it can't happen"
