iPod mini with CF card: Data Abort error

(1/2) > >>

Sykes:
Hey guys,

I equipped an old iPod mini 2G with a 4GB CF card and installed the latest Rockbox using the RB utility. It works fine for the most part, but after some actions, it crashes/freezes with a Data Abort error followed by 3 numbers. The numbers are always different but always begin with a 4.

This usually occurs when FF'ing and RW'ing a track, or when switching to a previous track. Sometimes it works OK on folder tracks but crashes when FF'ing on playing from a database. Other time it's the opposite - I can FF on database playback but when I try it on folders, it crashes. Everything is in FLAC (folders) and ALAC (db). But it's not like some files trigger it and others not... It's random. The same file or bunch of files can work one day and crash the other day.

Also happens when I change a theme and then attempt to play a track.

The card is not faulty, fast enough (about 150x) and the Apple OF has no problem with it whatsoever. I didn't try RB on the original microdrive yet, but I need it to work with a flash card since I want to equip the player with a 32GB. I tried reinstalling everything, didn't help.

Any advices? What should I look into to see where the problem lies? Thanks!

P.S. one more question. When the mini powers up, down or restarts, it sends a loud POP in the headphones  :o Is that normal?

P.S.2 I also have a new battery so I can test the battery performance with both a card and a drive later  ;D

The statement

Here's one which now occurred 3 times when I played all tracks (all artists) from the whole db and skipped to next track.

Data abort at 40000D2A4 pc: 40000D2A4 sp: 400002B78 bt end

Here's another - picked an artist, started playing a track, skipped to next track.

Data abort at 40000C908 pc: 40000C908 sp: 400002B30 bt end

Next I played some files which worked quite well until I skipped back to the first track and then tried to skip to the previous one (i.e. last one in the list). I got the first set of numbers again. Also on next try when played a track from db and skipped to text.

So, the mini's mood for today is to put out this error when going to the next track. But I've seen different numbers at different times. Funny, skipping tracks usually works fine, while skipping to previous track usually doesn't work, but today it does :)

Does it makes any sense?

Version 3.12. Just basic stuff is installed now, no themes or fonts.

I've found some very old info about a similar problem...

--- Quote ---rockbox tells the cf card to go to sleep as if it were a hard drive. this causes problems and it won't wake up. so it just plays one song and it dies

This is something I wondered about. How does RB handle CF cards in mini? There is a HDD spin-down option in the menu...

Sykes:
Update. I finally got around to fitting a 32GB CF card (Transcent 133x). So far, no problem whatsoever. So it was probably in the card.

Anyway anyone knows how those HDD-related features (spindown, buffer...) work with a CF card?
