iPod Photo overhaul + rockbox
« on: November 22, 2012, 10:31:54 AM »
I have decided that I might want to invest in a new battery and a CF card adapter for my iPod Photo 20GB (I hear clicking in the HDD, and the battery is cruddy. If you did not know, the Photo is the 4th gen classic with a color screen). I already have a 4GB CF card (And I might get a bigger one tonight for Black Friday, who knows?), but I need to know if Rockbox will work on a CF card-equipped iPod Photo.

That should work, yes, although some CF cards work better than others.

My particular CF card is a SanDisk Ultra 30MB/s. Is there a specific brand you recommend? And will using a CF card use less battery?

One would think it should, but looking at the wiki reports http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/IpodRuntime there is no good evidence either way, though the series of reports on the modified 80GB 5th generation iPod are from after most all the major power savings work, and aren't all that great.

It would be totally bitching if you ran a pair of battery benches before the CF mod and a matching pair after the CF mod!
