I kept getting an error about accessing the playlist control file (I think; recalling from memory). So I got the current installer and refreshed the install with the current stable version. On restarting, just after the Rockbox boot screen flashes (6.0 I think): completely garbled screens. It reminds me of an old CRT TV with bad horizontal hold, showing about four heavily slanted copies of the same screen. In fact, sometimes the screens are even rotated 90 degrees! Restarts, pulling the battery, re-install... no change. The only workaround to achieve even limited usability was to install the voice file (though it seems slightly garbled as well).
I've searched about and not found any other folks having this issue. Might be a coincidental hardware failure, but not bloody likely, IMHO. About the only thing I can think of trying next is re-installing the factory software within Windows (I normally run LMDE). This is a 20GB Red iRiver.
PS I tried several times to uninstall / re-install the boot loader, but I ran into two different problems. Trying to uninstall the bootloader, the utility claims "No Rockbox bootloader found". Trying to install a new bootloader results in the error "Copying modified firmware file failed."
