Misbehaving Sansa Clip+
« on: November 15, 2012, 10:53:02 AM »
Hello everyone.  I bought a Sansa Clip+ the other year for listening to audiobooks on.  The main thing I wanted was the ability to keep my place in more than one book at once (they're all single files). I couldn't get it to do this without losing my place in the book, so I ended up installing Rockbox.  At this point I found that I couldn't manage to get Rockbox to reliably keep its place in a book if I had more than one book on the go, so at this point I gave up, just kept one book on the go on the Sansa, and listened to other books on my laptop.

This worked fine until the other week, when I finally decided that I just wasn't going to finish off Anna Karenina and it was time for a new book.  I connected the Sansa to the laptop, deleted the Anna Karenina file, added a new file.  I then disconnected the Sansa in the usual fashion, and when I turned it on and it had booted with Rockbox, there was no sign of the new book.  I tried this with another book, no joy.  I eventually had to boot up without Rockbox (keeping the left button pressed as I pressed the on/off button), which resulted in a rather quiet audiobook, but it was passable with speakers.

This worked fine for a week, and then I turned it on yesterday and it cheerily announced the start of the book.  It's not a book I'm familiar with and I have no idea where I'd got to, apart from a good few hours in!  At this point the thing is unusable for me.  How do I get this sorted out?  I just want something that will keep my place in one book at a time by now, I'm not being all that fussy.

You can probably work out my level of technical expertise from this post.  It's not high, and due to disability (visual and cognitive impairments) I'm not up to reading long documents to work out how to fix this.  If someone could help me out, I'd be very grateful indeed.

Sounds like you copied it in MTP mode instead of MSC mode

Could you explain what that means, please?  I've been copying everything in exactly the same way as I've always done.
