Original Firmware for Studio 20

A big Hello to everyone,

I'm new here and I really hope I'm welcome. I've got a (or more) problem(s) with my player. I've tried the support, but as plastered all over this board, no decent reply (I wish I could make my money like that). Anyway, I hope one of you could help out, of what I read here people here know more about the subject than the ones who sell it.

It goes as follows. The symptoms: Main problem, no sound-output, neither on the ear, nor on the line-out. With the original 5.08 firmeware, when viewing a song, the length of the song is displayed as zero, push the play button and it goes into pause, play it again and now play and pause are displayed, play it again and it starts playing, but not sound, doesn't display progress either!

I also installed RockBox (and flashed according to instructions). This process seems to go well, everything seems to work, the song-length is now properly displayed and pushing play works as it should, the song progresses, but still no sound. Did I understand it correctly that RockBox gets loaded on top of the 5.08 firmware? If yes it seems that somehow the 5.08 firmware is corrupt, seems to partly get solved by RockBox, but the no sound problem stays.

On the Archos web-site, there is the firmware update, but as you, I presume, all know it's version 5.07a. I would like to try to get the original 5.08 firmware back in. I made a backup of it with the RockBox backup process (as recommended), but I suspect that the backup is corrupt, so that cannot be of any help. In order to try and progress, is there anybody who could supply me with his (known to be correct) backup of the original Archos 5.08 firmware, getting that in seems to me to be the first step! I would be extremely gratefull if somebody could/is willing to help me out. I would also like to ask for suggestions of anybody who has experienced similar problems or recognises the problems to post. I'm really pissed off, I didn't know about RockBox untill I started surfing for solutions to my problem(s), what I saw of it, it's really fantastic (it seems like a new player (except for the sound problem of course)) and it renewed my interest in the Studio 20

I really hope sombody can help, many many thanks in advance for any suggestions, help, or the firmware.

I don't know much about the Archos line at all, but my hazarded guess would actually be that this is a hardware problem. If you actually flashed Rockbox, then I don't believe it's loaded by the Archos firmware, and either way I think a corrupt original firmware shouldn't affect Rockbox's playback capabilities. It probably has something to do with the MAS decoder chip. Though, as I said, I personally really don't know much about the Archoses at all.

Thanks for your reply, against better judgement, I was hoping this was not the case. Anybody's got a different opinion/suggestions?
