CF mod iRiver 120 don't work when connected to PC

I have followed the CF mode guide and now have a problem,
The guide says"If you already copied your rockbox build to the CF card, go to the next step. If not, connect the iriver to USB, then turn it on, so that you are in bootloader USB mode. Open the iriver on the PC and copy your rockbox build over"

Well, I have no card reader so I need to connect the iRiver to my computer and copy the files, the problem is I can't access the CF card, it show up after 2-3 minutes and i can't open it, tried it on my laptop too but the same problem...it only gives me some "connect time error"
Everything seems to work fine if I start the iRiver and boot from "rom" or "ram", I can see it's 14,8 GB left (it's a Kingston ultimate  16GB 266X) but I can't access it from my computer  ???

Does anyone have a suggestion ,what to do/try? The CF adapter is bought from some Hong kong store on ebay and the CF card is brand new. The iRiver works great with the HDD but I think it's time to upgrade.  :)
