Current time on boot screen
« on: October 26, 2012, 06:29:40 PM »
I'd like to request a feature: displaying the current time on the firmware boot screen.  Sometimes I turn on my media player just to check the time and it would be convenient not to have to wait for Rockbox to finish booting.  I can imagine it might be complicated by time zones etc. but wanted to offer the suggestion in case it's not hard to do.

Thanks,
Thomas

We don't accept feature request. This forum is named "feature ideas" for a reason -- it's for discussing ideas, and perhaps you manage to get someone interested enough to actually do it.

As for the idea by itself: I don't think it's likely for anyone to work on that. The first Rockbox logo shown is displayed by the bootloader, not Rockbox itself. That means you need to change the bootloader, and that is something there's generally not much interest in.

Indeed on some targets changing the bootloader is dangerous and requires large amount of testing.  Adding anything not entirely necessary isn't desired.

I think it would depend on the target.  Its probably useless on flash devices because they boot almost instantly, but on a HD based player it would be more useful.  If you've got a target where this applies, and its not too dangerous to flash a bootloader, might be worth trying to hack up.
