Rockbox UI as a media player
« on: October 20, 2012, 10:11:40 AM »
Ok, I'm not quite sure if this counts as discussing rockbox... But... I've actually moved away for using normal Media Players on linux, and i've started using the Rockbox Simulator as my default media player. It actually works quite well. A lot better than many players, especially on memory. Does anyone else do this?

The SDL application would be a lot better suited for use as a desktop media player than the simulator(s).

My main reason for using the simulator is the fact that I can start a song, then play a rockbox game from the same program. It means i don't have to open up multiple programs, AND it means I can get more accustomed to Rockbox's new features ( I update the simulator daily, even if i don't need to, so i always have whatever new features it provides)

I think you misunderstood me...

The SDL application still offers you all this functionality, except you get to define the dimensions and you don't have a weird, superfluous image of a DAP faceplate on your screen taking up space that could go towards displaying things that might actually be useful.

Think of the SDL application as "a sim for a device with an arbitrary resolution, sans replica DAP faceplate image".
