You don' t need a driver when using Windows XP. XP has builtin support for MassStorage devices like USB memory sticks, external HDDs or - the Archos Jukebox.

Please check in "Disk Management" in Control Panel, if the drive is found. If yes, you may have to format it (use FAT32 as Filesystem).

To clarify: For the jukebox Player/Studio and the USB1.1 versions of the recorder you do need custom drivers even for Windows 2000/XP/2003. The USB-ATA bridge used in these models (ISD200) is not USB mass storage compatible. The windows drivers are available for download from the archos website, however, the various versions vary greatly in stability and reliability. Version 04062004 is working fine for me.

With linux there are no such problems because linux usually ships with the ISD200 driver.

hum... I've an JB6000 and always troubles to install the archos drivers
It's such a strange way to install, even if you're not newbies with computers...
the problem is that I found it hardly after trying several ways,
and then, I don't remember exactly how I manage in ...
(and I've done it on a friend's computer last week...)
I think that when you've plugged your archos, go to "Disk Management" in Control Panel, and then try to update the driver with the good one
Maybe you've to restart your machine before it's working
It must be something like this...

Greetings!

I see this is an old thread but I'll post here rather than creating a duplicate topic in a new post.

I am just now trying to get WinXP to recognize a Jukebox Recorder 15.  After reading your above post, I went to the Archos Website, but their "support/download" page seems to have drivers for only one device, which is not a Jukebox.

Do you happen to have another source for drivers that will let the Jukebox family work with Windows XP?

Thank you very much in advance!

Thank you for that link!  The driver does work with my JBR 15.

Next, I tried a used Jukebox Studio 20 (without Rockbox).  It required me to re-install the driver (surprising to me!) and then worked fine.

I downloaded the "rockbox.archosplayer.zip" file, unzipped it into the root directory of the Studio 20, then used Windows Explorer to verify the correct files on the Studio (i.e. "archos.mod" and the folder "/.rockbox").  Everything looked fine.

I unmounted the studio (Safely Remove Hardware -> OK, waited for the confirmation), disconnected the USB cable, powered down the Studio... no problems.

I re-booted the Studio, the Rockbox logo appeared, everything seemed fine.  But now the Studio is not recognized at all by the PC.  When I connect the USB cable, I get absolutely no indication on the PC (no drive appears in My Computer, no "new hardware detected" balloon appears... nothing).  And no "USB Active" message appears on the Studio.

Do you have any idea why I could initiate a USB connection before installing Rockbox, but cannot initiate one after installing Rockbox?

Thanks again for this great software and for your invaluable help!

And happy holidays!
