Failed Rockbox load: Sansa Clip+
« on: October 14, 2012, 01:56:54 PM »
After 3 hours I've basically given up.

Initially I did not extract Rockbox utility (Ver 1.3.0) onto the Clip itself (doh) and attempted to run it from my PC.

Obviously this didn't work so I then tried to install it manually. I followed the instructions, safely ejected the device and the message on the device screen stated it was upgrading the firmware. When I turned the device on, the Rockbox logo appeared briefly with a "file not found" error, and then "usb mode" (or something to that effect).

I then booted with the standard Sansa firmware and formatted the device.

After this I extracted the Rockbox util and the firmware file to the device itself, and executed the util from the device.

This time, nothing, the original Sansa firmware boots and everything loads as normal.

I'd really like to use Rockbox. Please help!

FWIW, we have an installation manual, but basically you need to:

1)  Run Rockbox utility
2)  Select the device you have and the drive letter for your player
3)  Hit the install button and follow the instructions

You don't need to copy anything to your player.

I read the manual, obviously not well enough as I did not select the correct mountpoint! Now I have selected the correct mountpoint and Rockbox has successfully installed.

Can't believe I overlooked such a basic step - thanks for your helpful response.

I'm curious, for the sake of improving the documentation to lessen confusion (if necessary), if there was anything in particular you could point to in the documentation that lead you to believe you needed to extract Rockbox Utility to the player itself. There's nothing wrong with doing so, but it certainly isn't required, and if there is wording in the documentation that lead you to believe this was required, I would like to know about it, so that it can be re-written if necessary.

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.
