Plugin to change idv3 data

My biggest peeve is the fact that a lot of the songs i download have corrupted idv3 tags, or wrong idv3 tags... I'm fairly sure (not meant as an insult, only based on my experience with computer repairs) that most people don't know how to edit the metadata of an audio file, and i know for sure that there's no built-in way on linux to do it... So i'm proposing a simple idv3 editor. I don't have any experience developing for rockbox, so i can't do it all on my own... But i can help, if anyone needs me to.

Lack of a fast way to type would make this far more difficult then using a PC.

By the way there are many good id3 editors on Linux.

Linux by itself is the kernel, so a "built-in way" in Linux is something that completely doesn't make sense. I assume you're talking about the major Desktop Environments. Most players on Linux can edit tags (like audacious) so I disagree with this statement -- if the distribution you're using doesn't install / provide tools for doing so it's a problem of the distribution, not Linux.

So i'm proposing a simple idv3 editor. I don't have any experience developing for rockbox, so i can't do it all on my own... But i can help, if anyone needs me to.

We had a simple id3 editor plugin in the tracker years ago. There wasn't too much interest in it, and the major problem with such a plugin would be the fact that there is no useful way to enter text in Rockbox (yes, there's the virtual keyboard, but that's not really suitable for editing more than a filename when saving a playlist or similar).

Feel free to work on it (if so don't forget to show up on IRC). I don't think anyone would object such a plugin if it does its job well but I don't see anyone picking it up either.

Yeah, i was referring to the Desktop Environments... I was meaning that none of them (i've tried Gnome, Unity, KDA [my default one], windowmaker, xfce... A bunch} Have a means included without another package that must be installed separately to do so. It is completely my intention to attempt this, and i will definitely keep you filled in... I apologize for my lousy explanation... Explanations of things like this have never been my strong suit...
