Bookmarking / navigation flow

(1/1)

joshua wood:
I'm tying to understand how my navigation "workflow" can best be enabled by Rockbox. I'm running 3.11.2 on a 5.5 iPod video.

I often need to switch between what I was last listening to, and what my son was last listening to (so in principle I don't need more than two bookmarks). Recent bookmarks -> unique only is on, and this feature works for my needs. I will bookmark my current song, start his songs, bookmark where ever we get to in a folder, and switch back to where I left of via the recent bookmarks menu.

There are a few issues with the way things currently work, and I'm wondering if there are current ways to solve these issues.

1. I have a few shortcuts setup, and require these. I also have settings -> general settings -> file view -> show files set to supported. If I do not then the shortcuts don't show up under the Files menu. However, this also shows the bookmarks in the file browser. Because I don't show file extensions or icons, this makes it appear as though there are duplicate folders, which is confusing. I would like to see shortcuts but not bookmarks. Can I tell Rockbox what is considered as a supporting file somehow?

2. If my current music folder changes, my old bookmark remains in the recent bookmarks. However, deleting it from here appears to only remove it from the recent bookmarks list, leaving the bookmark still on disk. If they are removed from this list, how am I to find them to delete them again, short of running into them when browsing the file system (assuming 'show supported files' is enabled)? I cannot find a 'bookmarks' menu listing all bookmarks. Is it possible to have the bookmark on disk deleted when the bookmark is deleted from the recent bookmarks list (this would be a better solution as it requires less manual clean up)?

I'm suspecting the answer to both of these is 'not currently possible', which is fine, but perhaps I'm missing something simple.

Thanks all for the time.

It sounds like you're only manually creating bookmarks. If so, then it isn't currently possible to do anything about it, as you suspect.

But if manually creating bookmarks included an option like the "Bookmark on Stop" options "Yes - Recent Only" or "Ask - Recent Only" (or you're in fact using bookmark on stop), then the problems you see should go away, I think. No .bmark files would be created in the file system (other than the global one, used by the recent bookmarks list).

I am manually creating bookmarks. But it sounds like this "bookmark on stop" option only adds to the recent bookmarks without creating .bmark files....

Perhaps I could use this instead and always bookmark on stop. I guess the potential issue is that my recent bookmarks would exceed 10 at which point a bookmark that I may wish to retain will be deleted.
