new hard disk for h140??
(1/1)
club_necro:
Hello.. I am a long time user of rockbox and love it.. Ive been using my iriverh140 for a while and the hdd is getting glitchy, bad sectors I assume so i am going to put a new one in..
Sadly all the posts on this site about putting a new disk in all go back to misticriver forums which is now closed I believe. Can anyone advise me which the best disk to put in.. does the disk need to be partitioned or can it just be reformatted in FAT32 and copy the old rockbox directories across.. does that work or is there a special process?
I believe the disk needs to be a 50-pin ATA connection, and the tosh MK8007GAH looks like a likely replacement?
Thanks in advance.. any help greatly appreciated.
Pete.

Disk replacement for the H100 series is easy enough. Just remove the top and bottom covers (you need a Torx T8 for this), remove the back plate, and the HDD is right underneath the battery.
You can clone your old disk's contents to your new drive, swap disks, and close it back up.

That one, AFAIK, is a good replacement drive. Plus, it's 80GB... double the capacity of the stock drive! ;)
CompactFlash cards with a 50-pin ATA adapter card are also a popular choice for HDD replacements in these devices.
