VU meter ?

Hi! I'm new to this forum and I'm sorry if my thread is not a valid one or if this topic has been discussed before.

Today I installed Rockbox on my old Phillips HDD1620 mp3 player and I'm shocked by how good it actually works! It's 100 times better than a stock firmware, and no more problems for me (since stock firmware had lots of problems). Also better sound quality, louder volume, more options etc.

I noticed on a video on youtube (rockbox on ipod classic) that it has a vu meter in now playing screen. Is it possible to add such thing for my player? I browsed trough all themes available for my player but couldn't find anything with a VU meter. Any idea?

Sorry on my bad english and thanks in advance.

Hello Injection,

as far as I know, the "rockbox_default" and "rockbox_failsafe" themes, that come with rockbox builds (that means they should already be selectable when you navigate to the theme settings) have a vu-meter. You might tweak those themes (e.g. change the font) and they are pretty nice looking.

Or you could learn how to implement this feature in a wps. I think for other targets, there are some themes with a vu-meter on the wps. So you could learn, how this is being achieved.

Greetings,

c_k

Yes, you're right. I didn't try the default themes, I downloaded other themes for my player and best looking is rockbox_modern. rockbox_failsafe have vumeter but there's a problem. It's practically always at the maximum and it doesn't get down with volume.

Thank you

That's because the VU meter indicates the signal level, and the signal of the audio track you're playing isn't changing with the amplification for the headphones -- the amplification is done after processing the audio signal.

Apart from that: you can add the peak meter to any theme you like if you edit the theme. Check the manual for details (search for "peak meter").

I'm new in Rockbox so I don't know how to edit theme  :) But I was wondering if it's possible to add it manually. Just the problem is that my screen is too small and current theme which I'm using doesn't have space for peak meter  :(

Thanks
