There are tons of postings here on freeze-ups, and I have tried to comb through them looking for my issue. No luck so far, so I thought I'd risk asking yet another freeze-related question.
I am running a Rockbox version I installed on my 80Gb Gen5 iPod about 5 years ago. It has run great from Day 1. Yesterday, I added a 60-minute-long audio file. When I run it, it plays fine, but the running time counter freezes after a while, and I am unable to get any response from the iPod by pressing the wheel. The only way to regain control is by cycling the Hold button and using the two-button reboot for the unit. If I try to play the long track again, I get the same result, except after a different number of minutes. For example, 23 minutes the first time, 17 minutes the next.
Normal small song files (3 -7 minutes) continue to play just fine.
I don't recall what version of Rockbox I installed. The system info screen says: r14349 070814, whatever that means.
Any thoughts on possible problems with longer tracks?
Yes, I should probably try updating to the latest version, but I am not very familiar with this sort of thing, and it would probably take me all day.
Thanks, in advance, for any advice you can offer.
