Sansa Clip Zip ROCKbox installation done incorrectly

(1/1)

kjsd:
Hey guys,

I recently tried installing the latest version of rockbox on my Sansa Clip Zip

I refered to these sources:

http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/RockboxUtility#Download
http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/Main/GraphicalInstall
http://download.rockbox.org/manual/rockbox-sansaclipzip.pdf
http://mp3support.sandisk.com/downloads/um/clipzip-um.pdf

-I set the Clip Zip to USB: MSC mode
-Started rockbox utility
-plugged the clip zip to the PC
-clicked on rockbox utility's auto detect
-selected the device on the file system
-chose "Sansa Clip Zip (Unstable)"

The quick start tab was available but the options under it were dimmed; unselectable

So i clicked on the installation tab instead,
two options were selectable:

-install the bootloader
-install rockbox

I clicked on "install rockbox"

rockbox utility said that the installation was finished so i unplugged the clip zip and checked it out

the user interface was the same, nothing was changed
I plugged the sansa back into the pc, and opened it with windows explorer
i saw that there was a rockbox folder

I'm assuming i should've clicked on "install the bootloader" first then "install rockbox"

I figured reformatting the sansa would put me back on square 1.

I formatted the sansa clip zip with it's onboard format utility under the settings menu.

I'm not sure if that was a complete reformat or not.

If anyone could direct me on what to do from this step, that would be great.

You didn't install the bootloader, so rockbox doesn't get loaded.  Just go back and install the bootloader.

No need to format, you can do the install in any order, all that matters is that you do both the bootloader and rockbox install.
