Rockbox on iPod Nano with no partitions?

Hi,
I just erased all partitions on iPod nano 1st gen because they had errors and could not be fixed.

Can I install Rockbox on completely empty iPod Nano or do I need to install iTunes and do recovery first?

You can follow http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/IpodManualRestore if you don't want to use itunes. For most people restoring using itunes is the easier option though.
