Ok thanks Saratoga, I did reinstall bootloader, used the latest Firmware file this time given on Rockbox Installation page , even though after download it shows as version 01.01.18 not 01.01.20??  Cannot find my version 01.01.20 bin file on Sansa website or online.

However the Bootloader installed again ok/success, after ejecting player, it show updating firmare with success, but after turning on player, I finally saw the Rockbox screen for a split second, but then load error with black screen, and only says : plug USB cable. Does that mean it is bricked or what?

I did replug in player, and all the Sansa and Rockbox folders still show up on my PC only. Not sure what is happening now though.Tks

Did you actually install rockbox or just the bootloader?

I have the same problems using my Max OSX 10.8 or Windows 7. Every time I try the auto install it does not work. Too bad. I have heard great things about Rockbox but do not think that the Rockbox manual is clear for non computer techie's. An example for Mac OSX and Linux: "Create a folder called "rbinstall" in your home directory, and then extract the OF, the bootloader and mkamsboot into it." Home directory on the Mac or home directory on the Clip Zip?

That's a pretty bad problem description. It actually is that bad that it's unlikely anyone can help you. You might want to post the System Trace of Rockbox Utility after the problem occured, since that can help finding out what your actual problem is. If you read this thread carefully you already had noticed that this is useful information.

Home directory on the Mac or home directory on the Clip Zip?

What is the home directory on the player supposed to be? There is no such thing, a home directory is always assigned to a user of the machine -- and therefore cannot exist on a player that is only connected parts of the time the computer is running. Plus, these are the manual installation instructions that are not intended for what you call "non computer techie's". This is simply due to what the installation actually is -- I've explained things about this earlier in this thread.

Seriously, if you want help you need to improve your questions.

Right, and as zolo1 noted on the first page of the thread bluebrother, your snide remarks are uncalled for. But I suppose that makes you feel superior. Good for you. Pat yourself on the back and give yourself a cookie. ::)

Thanks for the cookie! So I assume you don't want any help? So why are you whining about things not working in this thread after all?

bluebrother, you don't provide help. Just smartass comments. Surprised you even had time to respond as it is very clear that you are a habitual self abuser and I am amazed you could tear yourself away for even a few seconds to type a response.

And as it so happens, no, I don't need your help. Other developers potentially, but not yours. I did get Rockbox to install. Are you aware that the link for the Rockbox Utility is not the newest version? After re-downloading it and getting all grey buttons again, I got a notification that it wasn't the newest version of Rockbox Utility. Once I downloaded the new version it worked fine. Maybe you should spend more time actually being constructive and updating links rather than wanking yourself into oblivion and self gratification by trying to big yourself up to other forum members.

Let me quote you the Rockbox Utility wiki page on that:

Note: if the links in the table do not link to the latest version the binaries haven't been uploaded yet. Do not file bug reports against such a case, the release process involves multiple people and thus can take a while.

So it happened that you just tried in the middle of things getting updated. But since people also have other things to do this might take a bit longer than an instant. It might also happen that the wiki page is updated after the files have been uploaded, and it might also happen that (since, as the wiki page says, this involves multiple people) the wiki page is not updated immediately after the files have been uploaded.

I'll leave it up to you to figure who did the work in providing a new version of Rockbox Utility. You might want to think about who's the "smartass" afterwards. And since you don't want my help you might need to stop using Rockbox Utility afterwards immediately.
