Since its been a few days of getting familiar with the rockbox on the classic 160,

Battery drain is significant even on standby (that is not going to sleep). Even while playing mp3's there's 1% drop in battery gauge for every 5-6 mins of playback at half the volume.  Harddrive spool uptime is a lot, I am not sure if there's any setting for buffering as such. The harddrive seems to be spooling even when fast forwarding a track. I am not using the EQ as of now since battery life is now 1/5th on standby and 1/3 on playback than what it used to be.

If sleep timer is engaged, 2/10 times I am getting this error when trying to wake it up. Sometimes the error comes up when a song is paused and hold switch is activated for like 5-10 mins (sleep timer is set to 30 mins)

The charging rate seems to be fast, the battery goes from 50 to 100% in just half an hour. A full charge takes 2 hours while originally it used to be 3-4 hours.
What's the battery capacity of the Classic 160gb ipod made after 2008 ? The default capacity set is at 550mAh only.

That's great - how do you know the file is updated?

It links to the same file name?? Can you please add version numbers or a version ID somewhere?

The rockbox-info.txt file included in every build contains the exact git version used for the build.

It is also in System --> Rockbox Info, and is shown on boot (although this may be too quick to read).

There is a new build multiple times per day, so the answer is "it's always updated" :)

Hi! I'm planning to buy a brand new iPod Classic 7G (or 3G) so I have a few questions before I buy it. Today I tried Rockbox on my old Phillips mp3 player and I felt in love with it :)

Will I lose my warranty if I put Rockbox on my iPod? Is there any possibility to destroy my brand new iPod? And last, I'm sure that it's possible to return to stock Apple's firmware, right?

And a few questions about sound. How is the sound quality and loudness compared to stock Apple firmware? I saw that iPod with stock firmware lacks in bass and that the volume is just to low for us who like to listen our music loud. There's also no custom EQ on iPod which is a major minus for me. And last, stock firmware's EQ distorts the sound. Any improvements on Rockbox?

And one more question  ;D Does it work with docks as before? I have a iPod dock on my hi-fi and I want to be able to play audio and charge my classic in dock.

Thanks!

Following the installation instructions as given, no.

Vastly superior.

It may do, it may not. It is very "hit and miss" with dock support. If the dock expects to find an iPod specifically, you might have a problem, as the iPod Accessory Protocol (the language in which iPods<->accessories communicate with each other) is not fully implemented in Rockbox. If your stereo can read from standard USB mass storage, then you will (read: "should") be able to play the files from this device fine.

Thanks!

Not a problem, if you have any more questions or would like anything covered here explained in more detail, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks for answering all my questions!

How do they now that Rocbkox was on the device, when it is on warranty? Is this similar to flashing an Android phone (so they can see in flash counter) or?

I think my stereo just pick up analog audio out from 30 pin connector, so it would probably work with Rockbox.

But nothing from Rockbox if I lose my warranty. I have bad luck with all devices so the iPod would die at least once during warranty time (as all my mobile phones, laptops, stereos and other devices  ;D).

No, no flash counter.

It essentially relies on you being a good citizen. Although, there is certainly a possibility that the device could fail in such a way that disallowed you to remove Rockbox before a warranty claim, in which case (if they bothered checking) I would expect the Geniuses to laugh you out of their hipster Apple store.

I'm not a good citizen  ;D Once I had a COWON mp3 player which I connected on a broken power amplifier and it burned Cowon's output (probably a voltage on power amplifier's input) so I bring it to the service and said "it stopped working itself". It was less than a month old and I got my money back because they didn't have such device any more.

I knew that there is such a possibility. The same is with Android phones. But I think that they have an option to reset the phone even if it's broken.

Lol  ;D I easily get angry so, they can try but they won't survive the night  :P

(just kidding)

Usually I don't like Apple, but iPod is the only thing that I planned to buy. There is no other player with that amount of storage in my country so it's the only option, but Rocbkox would be a great solution to get rid off iTunes and other Apple's bullshits.

Thanks on your help!

Deliberately defrauding Cowon is nothing to be proud of.

So Classic is my only option if I want a HDD player with at least 160 GB? There are also Archos players but they probably have less quality than iPod. I felt in love with Cowon X7 but I was reading a lot and seems that it's not a quality player. Furthermore, it has a better sound quality than iPod but this can be fixed with rockboxing iPod  ;)

There were seven generations of the iPod Classic, as well as a spin-off (the iPod Photo) that was later re-integrated into the main iPod line. All generations used a 1.8-inch (46 mm) hard drive for storage liteblue.
