Hi! I'm planning to buy a brand new iPod Classic 7G (or 3G) so I have a few questions before I buy it. Today I tried Rockbox on my old Phillips mp3 player and I felt in love with it :)
Will I lose my warranty if I put Rockbox on my iPod? Is there any possibility to destroy my brand new iPod? And last, I'm sure that it's possible to return to stock Apple's firmware, right?
And a few questions about sound. How is the sound quality and loudness compared to stock Apple firmware? I saw that iPod with stock firmware lacks in bass and that the volume is just to low for us who like to listen our music loud. There's also no custom EQ on iPod which is a major minus for me. And last, stock firmware's EQ distorts the sound. Any improvements on Rockbox?
And one more question ;D Does it work with docks as before? I have a iPod dock on my hi-fi and I want to be able to play audio and charge my classic in dock.
Thanks!

Following the installation instructions as given, no.

Yes.

Vastly superior.

It may do, it may not. It is very "hit and miss" with dock support. If the dock expects to find an iPod specifically, you might have a problem, as the iPod Accessory Protocol (the language in which iPods<->accessories communicate with each other) is not fully implemented in Rockbox. If your stereo can read from standard USB mass storage, then you will (read: "should") be able to play the files from this device fine.

Not a problem, if you have any more questions or would like anything covered here explained in more detail, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks for answering all my questions!
How do they now that Rocbkox was on the device, when it is on warranty? Is this similar to flashing an Android phone (so they can see in flash counter) or?
I think my stereo just pick up analog audio out from 30 pin connector, so it would probably work with Rockbox.
But nothing from Rockbox if I lose my warranty. I have bad luck with all devices so the iPod would die at least once during warranty time (as all my mobile phones, laptops, stereos and other devices ;D).
