removal from Sansa Clip Plus
« on: July 22, 2012, 03:38:02 AM »
Hello --

I received a Sansa Clip+ as a gift, with Rb installed; I want to remove Rb.

Starting the unit displays
"Loading firmware.  File not found."
then
"Plug USB cable"
I must hold the Off button for approx 15 seconds before the unit turns off.

Can someone tell me where to look or what to do to remove Rb completely?

Thanks,

L Mehl

Rockbox on the clip+ consists of two parts, 1) the rockbox firmware itself 2) the bootloader (combined with original firmware). To fully remove rockbox, you have to remove both.

To remove 1), you just delete the .rockbox folder from the root of the file system of the clip+
To remove 2), you should do a firmware upgrade with an original firmware file. First you boot into the original firmware by holding the LEFT/REWIND button while you turn the clip+ on. Then follow the instructions in
http://forums.sandisk.com/t5/Sansa-Clip-Sansa-Clip/Sansa-Clip-Firmware-Update-01-02-16/td-p/150227
to perform the firmware upgrade.

Thanks for your help thus far.

I followed the instructions on
http://forums.sandisk.com/t5/Sansa-Clip-Sansa-Clip/Sansa-Clip-Firmware-Update-01-02-16/td-p/150227
for the Updater ...

Update using the Sansa Firmware updater
For Sansa Firmware Updater - Click here to download
Manual Firmware update
Firmware Download for All Regions - Click Here to Download

All languages are now in one firmware version. After firmware update you will need to select your Language and Region preference.

• Ensure your battery is > 50% full
• Extract the .zip file into a folder on your computer

I see the file
clppa.bin
Is that the Firmware file?

• Once extracted, drag the Firmware file to the root directory of your Sansa Clip+
• Disconnect the Sansa Clip+ and let it begin the firmware update
• Once it finally finishes doing its update, it will turn itself off

It does not turn itself off

I see no indication of an update being executed.
The Clip displays "Plug USB cable"
I press the power button for 10 sec and the screen turns black.
Turn it back on .. I see Loading Firmware ... File not found.

I don't get as far as the next step ...
• Turn the Clip+ on Select your language and region preference
• Once its back to the main menu, head to "Settings" > "System Settings" > "Info", and verify the "Version" is now 01.02.16

Can you help me resolve this?

Thanks,

L Mehl

Yeah thats unlikely to work for you since you're running rockbox.  If you want to uninstall rockbox, I recommend the directions in our manual instead:

http://download.rockbox.org/daily/manual/rockbox-sansaclipplus.pdf

But I'm guessing the problem is that you did not reboot into the sandisk firmware after copying the bin file over.  The firmware update screen only happens when the sandisk firmware loads, so if you reboot into rockbox you'll never actually trigger the update.
