original firmware request delayed setup for long time
« on: July 09, 2012, 07:43:05 AM »
I've had Rockbox on my Sansa Clip+ for a while. All of a sudden it no longer comes up. Only the original Sansa Clip menus. I downloaded the full rockbox install and the first step says I should locate the original firmware and gives a few general links to sandisk and a wiki page. Now an hour later I'm still aimlessly searching for exactly what it wants. Wouldn't it have been much more helpful to give a specific link on the web or a location where it might be on my xp computer than to just stop the "automatic" installation like that? Any hints on either turning Rockbox back on (I still see a rockbox folder on the clip?) or a link to the original firmware would be appreciated.

The links change, so we provide a link to our wiki which we can update when they change.

The dialog box asking for the firmware file has a link. Just click it.

Thanks. Directing me to that wiki page let me find it. I went through the automatic installation. Unplugged it from the pc and restarted it but it still comes up with the Sansa firmware not Rockbox. It starts the lengthy refreshing the media then.

Double check that you actually have a Clip+, that you've set the installer to install the clip+ build, and that you've selected the correct drive in Windows.  Usually when nothing happens after installing its because the wrong build was selected for the player, or the correct build was installed but to some other disk drive.

That was it. I had an sd in the sd card slot and it was installing to it. The 2nd time I tried installing it (today) it never asked me where to install it and it went again to the sd card slot. I then removed the sd card and when I tried installing it for the 3rd time another window opened asking for the drive letter and model number. I think the first time I just selected my model number and not the drive letter.
There's another issue I came across in the install but I guess it should be another topic.
Thanks
