Play all function suggestion [Sansa clip+]
« on: July 07, 2012, 07:04:56 PM »
First of all, you guys made a magnificent job with rockbox, thank you.

I order my music on the clip with directories through windows explorer, the problem is playing them with rockbox is very inefficient.

On the official firmware I simply go to the parent folder I want to play and click the play all.

On rockbox (once I reach the desirable folder) I have to do a long click for the context menu, click current playlist, click up, click play next, click select, click home twice to return to the player and then finally click right to play the newly selected playlist.

Now if I counted correctly that's 7 clicks more than the original firmware.

Rockbox is extremely efficient in every aspect, surely it would be possible to add a one click solution to play folders.

Thanks again and best regards.

RTFM..... click the first file in the file/database browser in the folder you want and it will play the whole folder

I have read the manual and search the forums, I should have explained more, I arrange the folders like this: Genre / Sub genres / Albums / music files

For example, in the Electronic folder I have three folders: dubstep, drum n bass and IDM, each of these folders have the albums arranged also in folders.

With the method you mentioned, I have to go to a specific album folder and play the first file there, this will only add this specific album to the playlist.

I want to add to the playlist all of the albums I have in a genre/sub genre (all of the electronic albums for example).

I also just noticed that it doesn't automatically shuffle a new playlist I select after clicking the "play next" so here's another suggestion for efficient use, to always shuffle a new playlist without having to click the reshuffle playlist.

PS: the insert function isn't very useful when I want to switch genres I listen to (for example: to remove the electronic from the playlist and switch to metal).

Turn on the recursively add directories option, then hold select on the genre folder you want to add and select either current playlist --> add or current playlist --> add shuffled.

Yes but as I said, I often want to completely switch what I listen to, I don't want to add metal to the electronic I was just listening to, I want to start a new shuffled playlist with just metal.

I hope I'm more clear now, thanks anyway.

Try this.... create a text file in the .rockbox folder called shortcuts.txt... add the following text

Code: [Select]
[shortcut]
type: playlist menu
data: /path/to/metal/folder
name: call it something

Then open up the shortcuts menu and see if that gets you to what you want faster. This could be extended to auto shuffle and insert the folder, or whatever.

Yeah I already made a shortcut to the parent directory of my card, it doesn't really shorten the process I mentioned in the first post nor the reshuffling.

Is it possible to add a shortcut for the "play next" and "reshuffle" commands ? Maybe a script that will do both one after the other ?

I probably shouldn't post if I don't fully understand the question, but IIRC:

From the WPS: long select, Playlist, Reshuffle will reshuffle the whole playlist

I don't follow the "play next" part. Isn't that just a track skip? Or are you talking about playing the next entire directory?
