I don't know much about it. Its fairly rare for different mp3 players to sound different though.

Do you mean the fuze v1 sounds identical to the clip+? I actually have a clip zip rockboxed and it sounds excellent. Is that the same sound quality as the fuze v1? I'm considering buying a fuze used. Is there any difference between v1 and v2 I should be aware of?

All of those players are AMS based, either v1 or v2. The two chips have very similar DACs + amps. Theres some minor software difference but output is essentially identical. The Fuze+ uses a chip from freescale, which is also very good. The only thing I would avoid is the Clip v2 which has some wierd software problem in rockbox that makes the output a bit noisy.

I see. I find the clip zip to be almost identical to my ipod touch 5g output. When you say they are "similar dacs + amps" and "output is essentially identical" that makes me think they're not the same? If that is correct, I might want to stick with my zip clip. I've read a nwavguy review of the fuze v2, and it was excellent, but if the fuze v1 is at all different in sound quality I'm hesitant to buy it.
I'm very critical, and the difference between my ipod and zip is so small that "if" it even exists it doesn't really bother me enough to matter. Any more though and I'd rather stick with the zip. Perhaps I can ask this in a different way as well...
If I'm "only" using this for music and nothing else, is there any reason to get the fuze "other than" the bigger screen and battery (neither of which I care about)? I actually like the zip screen and themes and the batter is "long enough" for me... Just curious. :-)
