e200R bootloader patch won't run in linux
« on: July 06, 2012, 03:52:19 PM »
I'm trying to get Rockbox on my e250R however I am stuck I followed the directions on the wiki but I cannot get the bootloader patch to run.  The windows version isn't an option.  I've also tried other methods I found on the internet but nothing seems to work.
Any Linux users able to help?
Also I heard that it is possible to change an R version to a regular version is there an advantage to this?

Be more detailed.  No one can help you if you don't explain your problem.

I thought that was specific. I'm stuck on step 2 of the instructions on the wiki found here
http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/SansaE200RInstallation
Linux patcher

   1. You can either use the precompiled linux binary or you need to compile it yourself. If using a the precompiled linux binary, download e200rpatcher.linux32 or e200rpatcher.linux64 depending on whether you run 32 or 64-bit Linux. Otherwise, set up a development environment and download the Rockbox source via the directions here. Then, download bootloader.bin and copy that into rbutil/e200rpatcher/ and run make (requires libusb-dev installed)
   2. sudo ./e200rpatcher.linux32 or ./e200rpatcher.linux64 and follow the prompts
   3. If it says "Firmware Unlocked, Proceed to Step 2" then it was successful and you can continue.

I typed the command on step two (along with a dozen other variants) and it either says the command is invalid or doesn't exist.

That probably means you haven't completed step 1, since you don't have the patcher.  Do you know how to use linux?  If not, this is likely to be painful for you.

Thank you for the dismissive advice and total lack of encouragement.  I have been using linux for about five years have installed it on several machines. The bootloader patch has been downloaded and a copy is sitting in my root folder and desktop ready to go.
Further review shows that my computer is treating the patch as an .exe file and just clicking on the file makes my computer try to run it as a windows program after a few seconds wine aborts and I am left staring at my desktop.  Not really sure why a file named e200rpatcher.linux32 would be considered an exe.

I don't see how answering your question is dismissive, but I'm not really going to encourage you to mod your hardware.  That is something you have to decide on your own.  It doesn't help that you've picked probably the hardest supported device to install.

But you don't know how to run it?  Change your command line to the same folder as you saved the file, and then copy and paste that command.
