Songs encoded in WMA 10 Pro skip mid-track
adrianvincent:
Hi all,
I have a Sansa Clip+ with Rockbox 3.11.2. I've noticed that many of the tracks I've encoded using WMA 10 Pro (using the VBR 10, 25, and 50 profiles) skip to the next file mid-track, and it happens at the same point during the track, reproducibly. Has anyone else encountered this issue?
I submitted this issue previously as a bug (http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/12704) and attached an example file where it happens within the first second.
Thanks!
Adrian

Can you try this build and see if it works any better?

Thank you for the quick reply! I'll try it as soon as I get home from work.

Post Merge: July 03, 2012, 07:04:09 PMSo I tried the build you posted, and it seems that for some tracks, the track-skipping now occurs only with the lowest bitrate profile (VBR 10). So far, all but one of the tracks I encoded using VBR 25 and 50 play in their entirety (I re-encoded from the same source file using VBR 10, 25, and 50). With the stable 3.11.2 release, track-skipping also occurred at VBR 25 and 50 when I tried to play these tracks. Interestingly, the example file I posted in the bug report was encoded using VBR 10, and it now plays through to the end without skipping.
Do you have any clues as to what causes the track-skipping, and why it happens more frequently at lower bitrates? Unfortunately I can't post the tracks I've tried so far because they are under copyright, but I can look for an open license track that induces skipping in a similar manner.
Thanks again for your efforts!
Adrian

Not very interesting, I fixed the bug that caused that file to break. If you have other bugs, you'll have to report them separately with a sample file.

WMA Pro playback is still broken, before and after I installed the link you posted. Usually a file will simply stop playing at the same spot every time. Not that it matters, I use lame anyway, and there are better alternatives than WMA Pro, aac, vorbis, etc, etc. Just wanted to let you know for the sake of completeness that it's still not working properly on the clip+.
