Tone generator - brainwave generator
« on: June 30, 2012, 05:50:35 PM »
A brainwave generator is a tonegenerator that makes a sinus-tone at the same hz as the brain trough different states.
It is supposed to help the brain to enter a stage by listening to this,
it helps me.

State Frequency range State of mind
Delta 0.5Hz - 4Hz Deep sleep
Theta 4Hz - 8Hz Drowsiness (also first stage of sleep)
Alpha 8Hz - 14Hz Relaxed but alert
Beta 14Hz - 30Hz Highly alert and focused

Since my programmingskills are poor I have generated tones at different frequensies and made wave filesof them for use at my sansa-clip and home stereo.
I used the tone generator in Nuendo to make the files.

You will be needing very good heasphones to hear the lowest hz, my beyerdynamic dt990 starts at 5 hz,
my giant sub in my livingroom covers the rest.

A tone generator that covers all all frequensies would have been very cool also for other purposes.
Like tuning instruments by ear(ref tone) and voice-training.

There is a lot of them around, like this :

http://www.ringbell.co.uk/software/audio.htm

This one only starts at 100hz though, and I have not checked how accurate it is.

Anyone up for making a full range tone generator? ;D

I've written an oscillator plugin that works for the old ipod nano.

How do i submit the code?  Anyone?

You can upload a patch to flyspray, but we're moving to using gerrit + git so that is preferred if possible:

Did you figure it out?  You may want to come talk to us in our IRC channel (see link on the left side of the screen) as well.  Its helpful to directly talk to people about patches.

I got as far as checking out the lastest verison of rockbox from the git repository.  I'll see if the plugin still compiles and get back to you.

I use it to test stuff, it has on the fly variable volume, frequency and phase difference.  Sine and square wave option too.

Cheers, Rex
