Playcount not being recorded in Clip+
melonhead:
I hope this is the correct forum for this. I am using the Clip+ with Rockbox but I am having some issues with playcounts. I have searched the forum but either the information I find is pretty old or it is conflicting.
I am trying to use the autosync feature in MusicBee which works well when it comes to adding/updating mp3s but it is supposed to update the playcount in my music library when it syncs. This is the problem, the playcount doesn't seem to be recorded in the Clip+ so no counts are being updated in my library.
I read somewhere on here that you need to enable Gather Runtime Data, which I do have enabled so I would expect the playcount info to be recorded but the mp3s I play don't seem to be modified and there is no playcount being shown when I open my the player in MusicBee. Scrobbling is working fine when I use BoxScrobbler so some data is being recorded (at least in the scrobble log).
Am I missing something here? I can't see any other options that might enable this or stop it from working.

That software is just copying files to the player. Its not actually able to move any information the other way, so play counts won't be updated.

Thanks for the reply. I posted this on the musicbee forum because I wasn't sure what was not working. I thought musicbee does take the count data so I asked the developer there and he said this:
--- Quote ---yes that is correct when not using MTP mode - there is no special logic built in for Rockbox or Sansa Clips, and MB just copies the files.
However with MTP mode, if you tick the 2-way sync in the 2nd tab of the device sync settings, MB will retrieve the Last Played Time and Play Count fields from the device if the device supports those fields in MTP mode (not all devices do).
If you still cant get it working in MTP mode then if you find a link pointing to an API or way to retrieve that info then i will consider it as Rockbox is fairly commonly used on devices i believe
--- End quote ---
I changed the Clip to MTP mode in the Sansa firmware and now when I plug it in it opens with the Rockbox firmware but I'm still not getting any counts.
Where is the count data stored? I can't see anything in the tags and the modified date on the mp3 files doesn't seem to change so does it get stored to a log somewhere instead?

To be clear, changing settings for the Sandisk firmware does not do anything in rockbox, so those settings won't do anything. Rockbox is MSC only, so you won't be able to use MTP.

Ah I see. That's a real shame.
As a side question, since changing the mode I get a different boot when I plug in to computer, now Rockbox loads and then a big USB symbol shows (where as before it was all done in Sansa firmware). Is this a better/worse/no different way to plug in? And what happens with the database when I do this, does it automatically start updating when I unplug or do I need to reboot it for it to start updating in the background?
