Utility stops working installing on fuze+
« on: June 14, 2012, 12:02:26 PM »
I am trying to install rockbox on my Sansa fuze+ . The Quick start icons do not work. The Installation icon works but after the sansa firmware  is opened the installation stops after the "patch" step. The message I get is the utility has stopped working. I have tried several times please help.

Use a development version. And check the changelog of Rockbox Utility first.

Well, you haven't said what operating system you have, but since the development version is just an updated version of the binary you already have you should be able to run it in the same way.

I am using windows vista, However this seems to be beyond me. I have Rockboxed two other  sansa e200s and have had no problems using the standard download and utlity features. Maybe I will just have to wait for the stable build. I really do think the rockbox features are far superior to the sansa's

To be clear, the stable build will be essentially identical to the one you've just downloaded.  If you can't run a Windows executable now, you won't be able to run it then either.

As already said: use a newer version. Which means, since no newer version has been released yet, use a development version. For which the downloaded file looks *exactly the same way* as for a release version. Except for the filename of the file to download.

I hae installed the development version, but the utiliyu stops working when I try to install the bootloader this is the original problem. Am I correct to assume I have to install the bootloader manually following the manual directions. Which file on my fuze+ is the bootloader installed?

You should *really* be way more specific. What is "stops working"? How does it look like? There is a problem in the latest released Rockbox Utility with Fuze+ bootloader installation that has been fixed in the latest development binary. What version *exactly* is the binary you're using?

No.

When I run the utility y-y1.2.14 to install the bootloader Iafter I provide the OF the installation starts but when the "patch file step starts, I get a messge block that rockboxutility.exe has stopped working and that windows will search for a solution. This has occurred on different computers. The original firmware that I provided is 02.38.06 which was downloaded from sansa The actual player indicates the firmware is 02.38.06A I cannot find this version on the sansa site to download. Could this be the problem.

I am researching the firmware issue with sansa support. Im fairly new at this and do not fully understand some of what you ask such as which binary are you using. Thanks for just beatring with me.

Sandisk support won't be able to help you here. I'm talking about the binary of Rockbox Utility -- i.e. the file RockboxUtility.exe. Since you still seem to have the "stopped working" dialog from Windows issue you're not using the correct development version but an old one.

Start Rockbox Utility, then go to Help / About. The second line should say "Version 1.2.14 (c02bdc3), built Jun 13 2012 23:26:51". If it says something else you're not using the latest development version of Rockbox Utility.
