a modest proposal
« on: June 07, 2012, 11:38:17 AM »
I posted quite some time ago that crossing borders could
lead to enforcement of copyright and now I see that it
is actually being enforced.

http://www.zeropaid.com/news/9671/digital_frisking_for_copyright_infringement_at_us_border_disclosed/

I have a sansa e200 still going strong and I would appreciate a build of rockbox
that always boots to the original sansa firmware requiring a key press to get
to rockbox.   Also make sure the microsd chip is out of sight.

You can change the bootloader source to do that if you want.

I don't see how what firmware your MP3 player boots to is related to searches for copyright infringement.

okay I'll bite
without bringing in the microsd card

Say in the internal memory of the sansa I have files that are mp3
so when the device boots into the original firmware only mp3 files
are visible in the file manager.

Wheareas rockbox makes many more file types visible.

In any case booting to the original firmware by default makes
the device look familiar to suspicious and prying eyes.

I think this is silly, but we provide the source code precisely so that you can do whatever you like with it.

Edit:  Also, just a heads up, but "a modest proposal" in English is traditionally some horrific suggestion made sarcastically.  So if you title something "a modest proposal" people will probably assume you're not entirely serious.
