Sansa Zip: Japanese does not display

hopefully I am in the right section.


I just installed Rockbox onto the Zip, songs with Japanese or Chinese characters will not display properly, it shows boxes instead.

The font size in Rockbox is alot smaller than Sansa's firmware, so there might not be enough pixels to display East Asian Characters, and most of my songs are Asian.

Wonder if this is fixable issue in rockbox or should I go back to Sansa's firmware.

change the font in the theme settings to something which has the characters you want.

there is only one font to select, RB utility couldn't install the font package because of "download error".

I did download the Zipplus theme which claimed to have Japanese and Chinese support, but which did not help either.

Use a development binary of Rockbox Utility. There is a known and fixed problem. Please read the wiki page, it holds the relevant information.

ok.... um this is kinda getting unnecessarily difficult. I'm going back to Sansa firmware.

Should we perhaps have chosen a different default font for cabbiev2 on the clip zip?
If so, which fonts are recommended?

Hi, I know I'm bumping an ancient dead thread, but since google still displays this result when other people search for a workaround to this problem; here's the solution I found for my clip zip;

changing your font to 10-Sazanami-minchou under the theme settings will allow asian characters to be displayed.
