Random auto-skip track on Sansa Clip Zip
« on: May 14, 2012, 03:56:46 PM »
This is an issue that makes me mad... it's totally random, and I'm not able to figure out what causes it. Sometimes (not frequently, anyway) Rockbox goes to the next track spontaneously, even I doesn't click on anything. This happen with random track at random time, so I cannot give you precise feedbacks. For now, it happens only with FLAC files (coded at lv5 or lv8, it's the same), but I can't predict if one day this issue will came out with MP3 too.

How can I get some "debug" information while playing songs, so I can give you more information? This is a common issue, there is a known solution?

Please I want to help you testing and everything, but I'm an half-newbie, if you ignore my topic how can you pretend to make a good build of various version? :( :( :(

I have to ask you something: with which format do you have this issue? How you copy files on the Clip? Are there some particular "tag fields" in your files, as UNSYNCED LYRICS, LYRICS or someone else? I will try to figure out what is the problem, ma it's so random that it's very difficult to figure out... and I don't know if there's a log about rockbox playback, maybe in some message we can find our problem and track it to the developers...

Tag information is loaded well before playback begins, so if you track plays at all the parser successfully made it past the tags.

There is no log or anything like that.  Usually bugs like this get fixed when someone figures out a way to reproduce them.

Edit:  Just trying now, flac seems to be working normally on the Clip+.  Could you post your config file text so I can try it on my player?

At this moment i just can say that i copy songs with winamp syconisation or explorer.

I will try to find out which songs were skipped and post the result.

I attached the .cfg file also the settings are default.

Okay, I found an error song, which is skipped after 14 seconds. Its a MP3 file on the memory card (Transcend 8GB(10) micro SD HD).
With Sansa Clip software it works normaly on memory card. If I copy the song manuell on device memory it also works with rockbox.

So eventually it has to do with the memory card. But why is it this song? Other songs work on memory card..

I don't have a memory card, so, for me that's not the problem... maybe sansa's rockbox have issues with memory card, but I have this problem on the internal memory...

I try to post my config file also if it's for Clip Zip, but I think that's the same... however, it's very random and not so frequent, so you can bump into this issue accidentally.

Ok if i copy the error song once more manuell by explorer on device or card memory theire is no trouble..

So maybe the syncro-function of winamp is faulty?!

@ Peppe Weapon: How did you copy your songs?

Mmm... sometimes I copied it with Explorer, sometimes I convert them directly on Clip Zip with foobar2000... but usually I copy it with Explorer... anyway, I've formatted it and reinstalled everything, I'll send you any feedback as soon as I have the chance to do it.

I've tested well, and, always rarely, it continues to auto-skip tracks, after format internal memory, so it's not this the problem.

Anyway, I have some descriptions to give: it gives me error with a song and I replied it "skipping" that part, and in that case, works well, but I had to reproduce this song many times and see if this issue re-appear... but the most important thing is that FOR A SECOND TIME, ONE, SPECIFIC SONG gives me the error. Maybe a case, but I had to investigate about it. I remember that the error appeared for a two, consecutive times for a single, specific song, I reconverted it and the problem was gone.

I don't know if these were unique and rarely case, but if that damn song gives me another error, can I send you it and see if problem occurs?

No... it's totally random... that song now works well and another song that I listen completely about 4/5 times now skips... it's very absurd. Lack of memory? I'm thinking that it's linked with cover art (I use folder.jpg files), but for now, only flac files gives me this error, MP3, for now, works well.

I can't believe that Sansa Clip tester never experienced that error. Oscarmeier, do you have folder.jpg or front.jpg files in your folders, or any cover art that Rockbox displays? If not, the problem is not linked with images...

There are no jpg's in folders of error songs.

But I noticed that some songs doesn't start at 00:00. And that's a very similar problem.

The device memory can't be the problem because with sansa clip software it works.. but with that software i had problems with the memory card so i switched to rockbox.

Mmm... and files that gives you error what format are they? MP3, FLAC, OGG...?

Because, I don't know if it's a case, but only FLAC gives me this problem... but there aren't so much MP3 on my Clip, so I'm testing other format as WV and M4A to see if problem persists.

Another question: your files have cover art embedded? Files that gives you error have a cover art into the file? I'm thinking that this problem's linked to some issue while displaying covers, I have tried to reproduce some files without covers and, for now, works fine, no error, but it may be a coincidence and, one day, the problem reappears without any cover.

I recognized it just with MP3. I didn`t have so much FLAC songs on my Clip, but they work.

The theory of embedded covers can`t be the only problem, because after i move the error song to another directory or copy and paste it into the same directory it works.. i mean therewith i havn`t changed anything at tags or embedded covers..

it´s a real strange problem, but it must have to do with rockbox..
maybe the usb transfer mode doesn`t work  carefully, so that files getting errors..

Well, so we have to try to copy song running original Sansa software, and see if problem persists.
