Some embedded album art displayed, others not! help please!

Is there some reason you can't use a single 'folder.jpg' inside your album folders? Even during random play rockbox will still display whatever folder image you have inside that track's folder. Or do you not use an album sorted file structure? If not, you can still use a single jpg for each album, simply called %albumtitle%.jpg somewhere rockbox can find it, as long as your files are tagged properly it will display the proper art. Honestly embedded album art is so deprecated, a waste of space, and so problematic at times. I used mp3tag to specifically strip all that out of my not personally ripped tracks, and replaced it with single clean folder.jpg files sourced from wikipedia :). Hell you can even specify specific images for each track you have by simply including a %tracktitle%.jpg, there's just no reason at all to use embedded art, it breaks too many things.

*edit* Just realized what you are trying to do, moving playlists and files, in that case I would recommend simply keeping a bunch of album.jpg files permanently on your player, and stripping out all the embedded crap. The jpg files won't take up much space and consequently stripping the art from your files will SAVE space.

Just for anyone searching this later...

I found the album art wouldn't be applied to the mp3 if it was playing or open in any player. Like it can't update the file to add the art while it's in use. But there's no error to tell you this, well wasn't for me. Seems simple but it worked after about 20 attempts to add a pic to a song :) Got me a few times since too.

RockBoxNewB:
Hi Jason!

Thanks for updating this thread although it was inactive for some time!
Just some days ago, I discovered the album art functionality for myself, and I still have a lot of trouble with it.
Only about 30% of album art is displayed in Rockbox. I'm still trying to find a clear solution in my case. And your update might help me fix it in the end, who knows :-)

Best,

Frequent reason for AA not working in rb is use of progressive jpeg which IS NOT supported. This is explicitly stated in our manual anyway.

RockBoxNewB:
Hi wodz!
Thanks for making that clear again. I read about those progressive jpeg problems already, and it's good to know that it is OFFICIALLY not supported. That might really be the reason of the problem.
Anyway, I have been struggling to find out HOW I can distinguish a progressive jpeg from those jpegs that are supported by Rockbox? Is there any way to find that out about a jpeg before embedding it?

Thanks,
RBNB
