Queue and Insert
« on: May 04, 2012, 07:00:22 AM »
I've been pondering this question for a while now and I wonder if an expert could give some feedback. When creating playlists there is the Insert and Queue option; when you insert a track it stays there, when you queue the track gets deleted from the playlist after it has been played. Why is it when you choose the first track for a playlist the only option is to insert and then you can queue every track afterwards. The way I see it if you don't save the playlist before it ends you've effectively queued them anyway because once the playlist is finished you can't go back to it again (I don't think you can anyway).

If someone with a bit more know how than me can explain it better I would really appreciate it. Sorry if I sound thick but I just need a bit more detail on these two things.

You're absolutely correct in your understandings, and the reason there isn't the Queue option for the first track(s) in the playlist is (IIRC) any usage case for wanting it there could also be achieved by using Insert and then not saving the playlist, which you also point out :)

Basically, why bother having the Queue option if there's no reason to have it there?

You actually can, though it's not completely straight forward:

Go to the main menu. Invoke the context menu on the "Playlist catalogue" entry, select "View current playlist". Select any track and press Select to start playing the playlist with the hilighted track.

That's good to know.  It happened once when I created a playlist listened to it and then afterwards wished I'd saved it for another time. Thanks bluebrother.
